A-League Men: how the season works and what to follow

A guide to the A-League Men in Australian time: the summer season, the clubs, the finals series and where to follow live scores and the ladder.

By Scorely Newsroom · Published:

The A-League Men is the top men's football competition in Australia, run by the Australian Professional Leagues. It is a summer competition, played from October through to May, which sets it apart from the European calendar and keeps it on Australian time.

How the A-League Men season works

Clubs play a home-and-away regular season. The team that finishes first on the ladder wins the Premiers Plate. The top sides then enter a knockout finals series, and the winner of the Grand Final is crowned champion. The competition features clubs from across Australia, including Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, plus a New Zealand side.

Where to follow it on Scorely

On the Australia edition, A-League fixtures, results and the ladder are shown in Australian time (AEST/AEDT), so kick-off times never jump to another country. You can open any match for the line-ups, the run of play and the head-to-head, and follow the scores as they update.

The A-League is the natural home of Australian club football alongside the A-League Women, and both lead the Australia edition. For the national teams, Australia competes as the Socceroos (men) and the Matildas (women) in internationals and at every FIFA World Cup.
